The recruitment exercise for 800 Tanzanian drivers set to work in Qatar officially began on May 27, 2025, and will run until May 30 at the National Institute of Transport (NIT) in Mabibo, Dar es Salaam.

This initiative, led by Mowasalat (Karwa), a leading transport company in Qatar, in collaboration with Tanzanian and Qatar employment agencies, aims to connect skilled Tanzanian drivers with job opportunities in Qatar’s growing transport sector.

According to officials, this initiative is part of a broader program organized by the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Doha under the leadership of Ambassador Habibu Awesi Mohamed.

"This is a great milestone in creating employment for our youth and building stronger bilateral ties between Tanzania and Qatar," said Ambassador Mohamed.

He emphasized that such partnerships are vital in expanding access to international labor markets for Tanzanians.

The recruitment process, which has drawn a significant turnout of applicants, includes both a theoretical test and a practical driving test.

Theoretical exams assess drivers’ knowledge of traffic rules and safety protocols, while the practical segment involves on-road driving assessments using large vehicles and buses.

The process is being carried out in phases, coordinated by different recruitment agencies each day. On the first day, the exercise was managed by Sassy Solutions from Tanzania and Waha Employment Agency from Qatar.

In the following days, other local agencies including Mkapa Foundation, Larali, and Connect will take over coordination.

“This is an incredible opportunity for Tanzanian drivers. We are looking for dedicated and professional individuals who can meet the standards required in Qatar,” said a representative from Mowasalat.

Many of the applicants expressed excitement and hope. “I’ve been driving for years, and getting a chance to work abroad could change my life and my family’s future,” said Juma, one of the drivers who arrived early to participate in the recruitment.

In addition to recruitment, the initiative is also paving the way for long-term collaboration in skills development.

The Tanzanian government and Mowasalat are in discussions to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance training in driving, vehicle mechanics, and transport logistics.

The partnership would involve the Karwa Training Center in Qatar and Tanzanian institutions including NIT, the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA), and Karume Institute in Zanzibar.

"We are not just looking to export labor we want to invest in our youth, equip them with world-class skills, and make them competitive globally," said a government spokesperson.

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has committed to closely monitoring the process to ensure fairness and transparency.

Officials have commended the efforts of both local and international agencies involved. “This collaboration showcases what is possible when public and private sectors from different countries work together. We hope to see many more such initiatives in the future,” added the spokesperson.

The recruitment marks a significant step toward not only reducing unemployment in Tanzania but also positioning the country as a source of skilled labor for the global market.
