Dodoma, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has made a strong appeal to all eligible citizens to turn out in large numbers and register in the Permanent Voter Register ahead of the upcoming General Election.

The President issued the call today after inspecting the voter registration centre at Chamwino Village in Chamwino District, Dodoma Region.

During her visit, President Samia commended the peaceful and orderly manner in which the registration process is being conducted and expressed satisfaction with the high level of public participation.

I am pleased to witness Tanzanians exercising their constitutional right by registering to vote. The process here in Chamwino is going smoothly, and I’ve been informed that similar progress is being observed in other parts of the country, including Zanzibar,” said the President.

She emphasized that registering in the Permanent Voter Register is a critical step in ensuring that citizens are able to fully participate in the democratic process. “This is not just a civic responsibility it is a fundamental right. Voting empowers us to choose leaders who will shape the future of our nation,” President Samia stated.

The ongoing exercise to update the Permanent Voter Register began on May 16, 2025, and is being conducted in phases across the country.

It is scheduled to conclude on May 22, 2025. The registration process enables new voters to be included in the register and allows existing voters to update their information or replace lost voter cards.

President Samia also called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure the process remains accessible, transparent, and inclusive so that no eligible citizen is left out.

She urged all Tanzanians to take full advantage of the registration period and not to wait until the last minute.

The strength of our democracy depends on active citizen participation. Let us all play our part by registering and later turning out to vote in the General Election,” she added.

As the country moves closer to the election period, the government continues to emphasize the importance of wide-scale voter participation as a foundation for good governance and national development.

The President’s visit and message are expected to boost public awareness and motivate greater turnout during the registration period, setting the stage for a credible and inclusive electoral process.
