Tanzania rallies support for Janabi’s WHO bid

 Campaign efforts to promote Professor Mohammed Janabi as the candidate for the position of WHO Regional Director for Africa are in full swing in Geneva, Switzerland. 

Today, the Tanzanian delegation, led by the Minister of Health for Mainland Tanzania,Jenista Mhagama, and the Minister of Health for Zanzibar, Nassor Mazuri, continued lobbying efforts by engaging with Health Ministers and leaders from African Commonwealth countries.

We believe Professor Janabi represents the new face of health leadership in Africa,” said Jenista Mhagama.

 “His vast experience, commitment to health equity, and visionary leadership make him the right choice to steer the WHO African Region towards a healthier future.”she added

Prof. Janabi, a seasoned cardiologist and public health expert, currently serves as the Executive Director of the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute.

He is widely respected across the continent for his contributions to healthcare systems strengthening and non-communicable disease management.

 Nassor Mazuri emphasized the unity of the Tanzanian delegation and the importance of African solidarity: “This is not just a Tanzanian campaign; it is an African campaign.

Professor Janabi's vision resonates with the goals of many nations on this continent universal health coverage, improved health systems, and innovation-driven solutions.”

The delegation met with counterparts from various Commonwealth member states within the African continent, building support ahead of the final vote.

Our hope is that Africa rallies behind a candidate who has both the technical know-how and the heart for public service,” added Minister Mhagama. 

We are confident that Prof. Janabi will be a transformative leader for WHO Africa.”she added

The elections for the new WHO Regional Director for Africa are expected to take place later this year, with several countries vying for the influential role.
