JKT Queens have regained the top spot in the Tanzanian Women's Premier League after securing a 2-0 win over Yanga Princess in a crucial match played yesterday at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam.
The match saw JKT Queens take an early lead in the 5th minute, with Jamila Rajabu scoring the opening goal.
Just nine minutes later, in the 14th minute, JKT Queens extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Winifrida Gerald.
Following these early goals, Yanga Princess focused on defense while attempting to launch counterattacks, but despite their efforts, neither team was able to find the back of the net again. The first half ended with JKT Queens leading 2-0.
In the second half, both teams returned to the field, each focusing on controlling possession and defending their respective goals.
However, no further goals were scored, and the match concluded after 90 minutes with JKT Queens maintaining their 2-0 advantage.
After the match, JKT Queens’ Assistant Coach, Azishi Kombo, emphasized the importance of the win, noting that they were trailing Simba Queens by three points before this game. He praised his team's tactical approach, which led them to secure the full three points.
“Now, we are focusing on our remaining two matches, including one against Fountain Gate Princess. Our goal is to perform well and position ourselves for the championship,” Kombo stated.
He also reflected on their earlier defeat to Simba, where they lost 4-3, but expressed confidence in his team's ability to bounce back and perform strongly in the final stretch of the season.
Yanga Princess Head Coach Edna Lema acknowledged that her team made mistakes in the first 20 minutes, which JKT Queens capitalized on to secure the victory.
"After the initial mistakes, we managed to level the game, but we were unable to score," Lema explained.
“We were missing some key players due to injuries, but overall, I’m proud of the team’s performance.”she added
With this win, JKT Queens now sit at the top of the table with 41 points, one point ahead of Simba Queens, who have 40 points in second place. Yanga Princess remain in third with 33 points.
