The United Republic of Tanzania and the Kingdom of Morocco have agreed to strengthen collaboration in leveraging technology within the energy sector, aiming to ensure sustainable growth and development within the industry.

This agreement was outlined by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, during a meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development,  Leila Benali. The two leaders discussed various strategies to enhance energy cooperation between the two nations.

"In 2016, Tanzania and Morocco signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen collaboration in the fields of electricity, oil, and renewable energy, areas that both countries have prioritized for further development," Dr. Biteko stated.

Dr. Biteko highlighted that while progress has been made in Tanzania’s energy sector, more investment is needed, particularly in renewable energy.

These investments are critical to driving economic growth, especially in key sectors such as industry and mining, which rely heavily on strategic energy solutions.

He also emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise among energy professionals to enhance the sector’s efficiency, benefiting both the national economy and the broader regional market.

On her part, Minister Leila Benali noted that Tanzania has the potential to transform its energy landscape through a united approach, pooling existing resources to ensure that electricity access reaches a wider population.

"There can be no real development without light. The path to progress and the well-being of citizens lies in illuminating their lives through the energy sector," she affirmed.

Furthermore, Minister Benali praised President Samia’s leadership in advancing clean cooking energy initiatives, recognizing her as a champion not only for Tanzania but for Africa’s sustainable energy future.

During the visit, Dr. Biteko was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dennis Londo, the Tanzanian Ambassador to France,  Ally Mwadini, and a delegation of energy sector experts from the Ministry of Energy, the Rural Energy Agency (REA), Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC).
