Dr. Nchemba meets outgoing AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina in Abidjan

The Minister of Finance,  Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba (MP), pictured on the left, engaged in a productive discussion with the outgoing President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina. 

The meeting took place at the Sofitel Ivoire Hotel in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on the sidelines of the 2025 Annual General Meeting.

 This event marks the 60th meeting of the AfDB Board of Governors and the 51st meeting of the African Development Fund (ADF). 

It commenced on May 26 and will conclude on May 30, 2025. The agenda includes the election of a new AfDB President to succeed Dr. Adesina, a Nigerian national, as well as elections for the Executive Directors of this leading financial institution in Africa.

Over 6,000 delegates are expected to attend, including African Presidents and Heads of Government, Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors, development partners, representatives from the private sector, civil society leaders, academics, research institutions, NGOs, and other key stakeholders. 

The conference theme is “Making Africa’s Resources Work for Africa’s Development.”

Hon. Dr. Nchemba praised Dr. Adesina as a visionary leader who has played a crucial role in Tanzania’s development since assuming leadership of the AfDB. 

Through the bank’s financing of economic and social development projects, Tanzania has achieved significant progress.
