The Election Committee has called on the Executive Committee of the Dar es Salaam Athletics Association (DAA) to submit the names of their voters from the various districts within the region.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam on May 6, 2025, Juma Ikangaa, the Chairperson of the Election Committee, stated that they have given the executive committee a one-week deadline to fulfill this requirement to ensure the elections take place as planned.
He emphasized that the election process cannot proceed without the presence of voters who will elect the new regional leaders of Dar es Salaam.
“While all the procedures for conducting the election are in place, we are still awaiting the voter list.
We’ve asked the executive committee to work with the district sports officers to ensure this is resolved,” he explained.
Ikangaa further revealed that the Election Committee expects to receive 15 voters, including chairpersons, secretaries, and delegates from the general assembly.
Each of the five district associations is expected to provide one chairperson, one secretary, and one delegate to represent their district.
“Once the candidate list is finalized, the committee will announce the dates for submitting nomination forms and the official election day,” he added.
Positions to be contested in the upcoming election include Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary General, and Treasurer.
The nomination fee will be TZS 20,000 for executive positions and TZS 10,000 for committee members.
In her remarks, Rehema Mgunda, the Secretary of the Election Committee, encouraged qualified and knowledgeable stakeholders in athletics to come forward and collect nomination forms once they are made available.
