The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Gerson Msigwa, has announced that a delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expressed satisfaction with Tanzania’s ongoing efforts to enhance its sports infrastructure in preparation for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to take place in August 2025 in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

The remarks came on May 26, 2025, following a high-level inspection visit led by Msigwa, who hosted the CAF delegation headed by CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba, accompanied by the Director of Competitions, Samson Adamu.

Msigwa stated that the delegation visited several key sites, including Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium and training venues such as Gymkhana Grounds, Major General Isamuhyo Barracks, and the School of Law fields. The inspection aimed to assess Tanzania’s readiness to host the regional tournament.

“The delegation praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her continued investment in sports infrastructure. We also shared our long-term plans for building additional stadiums and training facilities as part of our commitment to advancing sports development especially football in the country,” Msigwa said.

He confirmed that Tanzania has already paid the required CHAN hosting fee and that significant preparations are well underway. The main stadium is fully operational and financially cleared for use during the tournament.

Regarding training grounds, Msigwa reported that 90% of the construction and renovation work has been completed, adding that Tanzania is fully prepared to host the event.
