The District Commissioner of Bukoba, Erasto Sima, expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for allocating over 19 billion Tanzanian shillings toward the development of key infrastructure projects.

These include a new modern market and an intercity bus station, both aimed at boosting the city’s economic growth and service delivery.

Sima conveyed these thanks during an inspection of the project site on May 27, noting that the work is currently in its initial phase, which involves demolishing old structures and clearing the area previously occupied by the old market in preparation for construction.

“The construction of this market has been a long-standing challenge for many years,” Sima said. “However, due to the genuine care and commitment demonstrated by Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to beautify Bukoba and bring services closer to its citizens, we are grateful for the allocation of 19 billion shillings to complete this market and the main bus station.”he added

He further explained that these projects form part of the government’s nationwide development agenda. The main market project is already underway, with a consulting firm actively engaged in progressing the work.

Sima also praised the cooperation of the local community, especially the traders from the old market, who voluntarily relocated without causing disruption and accepted the designated areas for their businesses. He described this as a patriotic act demonstrating their commitment to the city’s development.

Currently, the site is being cleared of old infrastructure, after which the contractor will officially take over to begin construction. Sima assured that the project is expected to be completed fully and on schedule.

The Ward Councilor of Bilele Ward, Tawfiq Sharif, commended the demolition phase as a clear indication of the government’s firm commitment to fulfilling the promises made in CCM’s manifesto.

Traders such as Safina Seleman, who previously operated within the old market, expressed optimism and happiness upon witnessing the commencement of the project, looking forward to a cleaner and safer market environment.

Residents of Bukoba also welcomed the demolition phase, viewing it as a positive step toward resolving longstanding disputes and fostering both economic and social development.

They extended their thanks to the government for initiating these critical projects, noting that the development of the Bukoba market and the bus station signals new hope for the city’s progress and exemplifies the Sixth Phase Government’s dedication to improving the lives of Tanzanians.

These steps mark the beginning of transformative changes expected to enhance the quality of life for all residents in Bukoba.

The historic projects aim to provide improved services through the construction of a modern market and intercity bus station facilities long delayed due to past political conflicts but now moving forward under strong government leadership.
