The Africa U20 and U18 Athletics Championships, originally slated to take place in Algeria, have been relocated to Nigeria, organizers have confirmed.

The competition, initially scheduled for July 14–18, 2025, will now take place from July 16–20, 2025. The change of venue and dates was announced by the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), citing technical reasons, according to Tanzania Athletics Federation (TAF) Acting Secretary General Jackson Ndaweka.

"The decision was made due to various logistical and technical issues, as outlined by CAA President Mr. Hamed Kalkaba Malboum," said Ndaweka.

In preparation for the continental event, Tanzania will hold national trials on June 8, 2025, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam to select athletes who will represent the country.

"We’re planning to conduct selection trials on June 8 to form the national team that will compete in the championships," Ndaweka confirmed.

In addition to preparations for international events, Ndaweka also revealed that the Federation's general elections, previously scheduled for April, have been postponed and will now take place in early June.

"The elections were initially expected to happen in April, but due to unavoidable circumstances, they will now be held in the first week of June," he added.
