The District Commissioner of Same, Kasilda Mgeni, has urged 120 primary school students from the district who are set to participate in the 2025 regional-level UMITASHUMTA games to uphold discipline, integrity, and hard work in order to bring honor to their district.
Speaking during a farewell ceremony held in Same town for the young athletes, Kasilda emphasized that the games are a valuable opportunity for children to showcase their talents, while also serving as a platform to nurture discipline, teamwork, and patriotism.
"Go and compete with determination and a winning spirit. Remember, you are representing the entire district, so avoid any behavior that could jeopardize your future or the reputation of your schools," she said.
She added that success at the regional level would not only bring pride to Same but could also open doors for talented players to be selected to represent the region at the national level.
She further promised that her office would continue to collaborate with various stakeholders to promote sports development in the district.
Among the key sponsors supporting the team’s preparations is NMB Bank, which donated a range of sports equipment including balls, jerseys, shoes, and socks for the participating athletes.
Speaking on behalf of the bank, Saad Masawila, Manager of NMB Same Branch, said the bank has consistently supported government efforts to uplift the sports sector, especially from the primary school level.
“We believe sports play a crucial role in the holistic development of our children. By supporting events like these, we are helping to nurture talents that will serve the nation in the future,” said Masawila.
He added that NMB remains committed to community development by supporting various sectors including education, health, and sports, and called upon other organizations to step forward and help nurture the talents of Tanzanian children.
