The Medical Stores Department (MSD) has delivered state-of-the-art machines powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) to support the delivery of modern and efficient cardiac services.

Some of the machines, which have already been installed, are expected to start operating any time from now.

Speaking during the official handover, JKCI Executive Director, Dr. Peter Kisenge, applauded MSD for its efforts to modernize heart care at the facility.

"We sincerely thank MSD for supplying us with these high-tech machines, which will greatly enhance our ability to provide accurate diagnostics and effective treatment," he said.

Dr. Kisenge explained that the newly delivered equipment comes with advanced imaging capabilities and can autonomously interpret medical data.

"These machines do not just take precise images for treatment—they also analyze and interpret critical patient information using modern AI technologies," he added.

He also recognized MSD's broader commitment to the health sector, particularly in the timely supply of medicine and essential medical equipment.

"We truly appreciate MSD’s continued efforts to ensure that medicines and modern equipment reach us quickly. This has had a tremendous impact on the quality of services we offer to our patients," he emphasized.

Dr. Kisenge revealed that JKCI currently serves over 1,000 patients, with more than 95 percent receiving diagnostics and treatment using modern equipment supplied by MSD.

"Thanks to MSD, we now have access to ECG machines and advanced heart surgery tools that enable us to provide high-quality care faster and more efficiently," he said.

On her part, MSD Dar es Salaam Zonal Manager, Ms. Betia Kaema, reaffirmed MSD’s commitment to supporting specialized hospitals like JKCI.

"JKCI is one of the country’s top referral hospitals, so we always ensure that the services we deliver are of the highest standard and respond to their needs promptly," she said.

Ms. Kaema added that MSD works closely with JKCI through regular consultation meetings to ensure a smooth supply chain and immediate resolution of any challenges.

"We maintain ongoing dialogue with the hospital to ensure all services run seamlessly and any issues are addressed in real-time," she explained.

The equipment, valued at TZS 800 million, is expected to significantly improve cardiac diagnosis and treatment outcomes at the institute.
