Government allows Form Four graduates to change subject choices

The government, through the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), has granted Form Four graduates of 2024 a one-month window to review and modify their selected subject combinations or courses.

This opportunity aims to help students align their academic choices with their career aspirations and ensure they acquire relevant skills for the future.

The modification period began on March 31 and will run until April 30, 2025.

Speaking to journalists today, April 2, 2025, in Dodoma, the Minister of State in the President’s Office – TAMISEMI,  Mohamed Mchengerwa, said the initiative enables students to adjust their subject combinations for Form Five, as well as courses in Middle-Level Colleges and Technical Education institutions, using the online student selection system.

“This is an essential preparatory step in the selection process for students joining Form Five and government colleges in 2025,” he said.

The government has consistently provided Form Four graduates the opportunity to revise their subject combinations and course selections through the Selform system.

This allows students to align their choices with their actual performance in the Form Four National Examinations, as released by the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA).

Mchengerwa stated that TAMISEMI has already incorporated students' initial selections into its database, based on the choices they made while still in school.

“After students make adjustments, this database will be used to allocate them to Form Five schools and various courses in Middle-Level Colleges and Technical Education institutions, considering their performance and preferences,” he explained.

The minister emphasized that this revision process is crucial in ensuring students enroll in subject combinations or courses that best prepare them for their future careers.

“This initiative also allows students to expand their options by adding new subject combinations or courses,” he added.

Mchengerwa urged parents and guardians to guide their children in making informed decisions by consulting professionals and considering academic strengths before finalizing their selections.

“To avoid future regrets, I encourage parents and guardians to actively engage in discussions with their children and seek expert advice before finalizing their subject combinations and course choices,” he said.

He reminded students, parents, and guardians to utilize this opportunity wisely by making necessary adjustments through the official Student Selection System at selform.tamisemi.go.tz.

Explaining the login process, Mchengerwa stated that students must enter their surname, year of birth, and their performance in a specific subject as prompted by the system.

“I trust that all graduates will make full use of this opportunity to modify their subject combinations and courses based on their performance. This will help them enroll in subjects they have excelled in or those that align with their career goals.”

The minister also made it clear that once the selection process is complete and students are assigned schools or colleges, no further changes will be allowed.

“I strongly urge students, parents, and guardians to utilize this revision period effectively to prevent complications after the Form Five and College selection results are released,” he cautioned.

“Once the selection results are announced, no further changes will be accommodated, and this process is completely free of charge.”
