Eighteen participants have officially confirmed their participation in the AIBO Chess Tournament, set to take place on April 6, 2025, at the Donbosco Hall in Upanga, Dar es Salaam.

The tournament is being organized by the Donbosco Chess Club in collaboration with the Chess Federation of Tanzania (TACA).

In an interview with The Respondent Online, Masimbo Kilasa, Chairperson of the Donbosco Chess Club, shared that the event aims to involve over 30 participants from various regions across the country.

Kilasa encouraged more players to register and participate in the tournament, which will be a FIDE-rated event, offering participants the chance to earn points and improve their global rankings.

"The competition will be held in one day, consisting of eight rounds. There will be several categories, including Open, Women, Under-12, and Under-8," Kilasa explained.

The primary objective, he noted, is to enhance the global rankings of the players, promote the sport, and strengthen the camaraderie among chess enthusiasts.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners, with the first-place champion receiving 70,000 shillings and a medal, while the runner-up will be awarded 25,000 shillings and a medal. The winner in the women’s category will also receive 25,000 shillings.
