Yanga, Pamba Jiji reach CRDB Cup quarterfinals

Yanga SC and Pamba Jiji have secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the CRDB Federation Cup after hard-fought victories in their respective matches played yesterday.

 Their triumphs complete the lineup of eight teams that will now battle for a place in the semifinals of Tanzania’s prestigious domestic cup competition.

At KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam, Yanga displayed their dominance with a convincing 2-0 victory over Songea United.

 The match started with Yanga taking control of possession, pressing their opponents early in search of an opener.

 Their efforts paid off in the 22nd minute when Duke Abuya capitalized on a well-orchestrated attack to slot home the first goal.

Despite Yanga’s relentless pressure, Songea United managed to hold their ground for the remainder of the first half, going into the break trailing 1-0.

 However, in the second half, Yanga continued their attacking momentum, and in the 54th minute, Jonathan Ikangalombo doubled their lead with a precise finish.

 The goal sealed Yanga’s place in the quarterfinals, as they comfortably saw out the match with a disciplined defensive display.

Meanwhile, Pamba Jiji secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Mashujaa FC in a tense encounter at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma.

 The match was closely contested, with both teams showing resilience and tactical discipline. Just before halftime, in the second minute of added time (45+2), Alain Mukeya broke the deadlock with a well-taken strike, giving Pamba Jiji the advantage going into the break.

Despite Mashujaa’s determined efforts in the second half, Pamba Jiji held firm, defending their slim lead with discipline and composure. 

Their solid defensive performance ensured they maintained their advantage until the final whistle, confirming their place in the quarterfinals.

With these results, Yanga and Pamba Jiji join Singida Black Stars, Mbeya City, Simba, Kagera Sugar, Stand United, and JKT Tanzania in the last eight of the tournament.

 The quarterfinal draw will soon determine the next matchups as the remaining teams prepare for an intense battle toward the semifinals.

The CRDB Federation Cup continues to be one of Tanzania’s most competitive tournaments, providing teams with an opportunity to claim silverware and secure a spot in continental football.

 With the knockout rounds set to intensify, fans can expect thrilling encounters as teams fight to keep their title hopes alive.
