Tanzania has proudly secured third place among the top-performing countries in professional boxing in Africa, according to the January 2025 rankings by the African Boxing Union (ABU).
The rankings were announced under the leadership of ABU President Houcine Houichi.
South Africa claimed the top spot, followed by Nigeria in second place, while Tanzania ranked third, showcasing its growing prominence in the sport.
The rankings revealed that South Africa led the continent by having an impressive 36 boxers featured across 16 of the 18 weight categories, the highest representation on the list.
Nigeria followed in second place, with 18 boxers making it into 13 weight categories, highlighting its strong presence in African boxing.
Tanzania secured third place with 18 boxers ranked across 11 weight categories, underscoring the country’s significant strides in the sport.
This achievement positions Tanzania as a key player in African professional boxing, as it continues to nurture talent and gain recognition on the global stage.
