The Government of Tanzania has expressed its commitment to working with the Republic of Korea to develop strategic and essential minerals in the country.

Speaking on January 24, 2025, the Minister of Minerals,Anthony Mavunde, held discussions with the Korean Ambassador to Tanzania, Eunju Ahn, at the Ministry's offices in Dar es Salaam. The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between the two countries in the mining sector.

Minister Mavunde highlighted President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan's directive to establish a strong framework for managing strategic minerals to ensure they benefit the country.

He explained that Tanzania’s mineral extraction strategy, which is almost complete, focuses on two key areas: conducting detailed research to identify the types and quantities of strategic minerals available and creating favorable conditions for establishing industries to add value to these minerals locally.

“Tanzania is one of the few countries in the world blessed with a variety of minerals. I urge investors from Korea to take advantage of the opportunities in Tanzania’s mineral value chain,” said Mavunde.

On her part, Ambassador Ahn reiterated Korea's long-standing relationship with Tanzania, especially in the mining sector.

She emphasized her readiness to strengthen this collaboration to benefit both nations. She also mentioned that POSCO, a Korean company, has shown interest in participating in the graphite project in Mahenge, Morogoro Region.

Tanzania’s government is preparing a special strategy to guide the extraction and development of strategic minerals, and investors in value addition are invited to explore opportunities in this growing sector.
