Hamisi Mwinjuma 'Mwana FA', the Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, has stated that the six-month extension for the preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) will allow for significant improvements in both strategies and organization.
He made this remark on Wednesday, January 15, during a sports stakeholders' forum ahead of CHAN and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, that the CHAN tournament, originally scheduled for February 1-28, would now be postponed to August this year, with Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda set to host it.
Mwana FA expressed that the additional six months of preparation will provide the opportunity to ensure the tournament stands out and leaves a strong, positive legacy.
“Tanzania had already completed 90% of stadium upgrades and was ready for the tournament.
However, with the postponement, we now have more time to better organize, making sure the competition will be notably different and of even higher quality than initially planned,” he said.
