The government has called on soccer stakeholders to rally behind the national team, Taifa Stars, as it prepares for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for August this year in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
The appeal was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, during the opening of a sports stakeholders’ forum focused on CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 preparations. The event was held at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam.
Dr. Biteko stressed the importance of collective support to ensure the national team is well-prepared for the tournament.
“I appeal to soccer stakeholders and all Tanzanians to actively support our national team during its preparations for CHAN. Providing the necessary resources will be key to our success,” said Dr. Biteko.
He underscored that the team’s performance depends on adequate funding and strong morale during the build-up and competition phases.
Dr. Biteko also encouraged Tanzanians to fill stadiums during matches to create a motivating atmosphere for the team.
“Our people must turn out in large numbers to cheer for the national team. This support will inspire the players to perform exceptionally and reach the finals,” he stated.
Additionally, he highlighted the economic opportunities the tournament would bring to the country, including increased business in transportation, accommodation, and entertainment, driven by the influx of international visitors.
“Tournaments like CHAN offer immense benefits to our economy. It’s an opportunity for Tanzanians to showcase their hospitality and seize business prospects,” he added.
The CHAN tournament is expected to unite the nation while presenting a platform to celebrate and promote Tanzanian football on a global stage.
