The Minister of Works and Transport, Abdallah Ulega, has officially handed over the construction of the Tanganyeti Bridge in Longido District to Jiangxi Geo Engineering.

The bridge, spanning 40 meters on the Arusha-Namanga road, will cost over TZS 4.6 billion and is expected to enhance regional connectivity between Tanzania and Kenya.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Longido, Arusha Region, Minister Ulega emphasized the critical importance of timely completion to boost socio-economic activities and support tourism.

“This road is a lifeline for tourism and trade. Its construction must progress around the clock to ensure timely completion, enabling citizens and businesses to benefit from improved infrastructure,” said Ulega.

The minister called for closer collaboration between TANROADS and TARURA to deliver high-quality roads that offer value for money and address the transportation needs of urban and rural areas across the country.

“Arusha, as a tourism hub, must have well-maintained roads that are safe, well-lit, and free from congestion to drive economic growth and ensure ease of movement,” he noted.

To improve sustainability, Minister Ulega urged TANROADS to adopt solar-powered streetlights as a cost-effective alternative to grid electricity, reserving TANESCO power for industrial and productive uses.

“President Samia has committed significant resources to infrastructure. Enhanced cooperation between road agencies will accelerate projects and foster economic empowerment for citizens,” he added.

He assured Arusha Regional Commissioner Paul Makonda of the government’s resolve to construct all key connecting and feeder roads in the region, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion and prepare for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Regional Commissioner Makonda highlighted the growing transportation demands in Arusha, driven by a tenfold increase in vehicles linked to the operational efficiency of Tanga Port.

He stressed that expanding urban roads would significantly enhance mobility and logistics in the region.

TANROADS Chief Executive Engineer Mohamed Besta affirmed their commitment to completing all ongoing road and bridge projects in Arusha on schedule and to the highest standards.

The Tanganyeti Bridge, designed to accommodate loads of up to 80 tons, is set for completion within 365 days.

Once operational, it will serve as a vital link for trade, tourism, and everyday transportation needs in the region.
