On January 13, 2025, Deputy Minister of Works, Engineer Godfrey Kasekenya, called on the contractor, M/S China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), to expedite the construction of the Lusahunga-Rusumo road (92 km) to a tarmac standard.

During a site inspection in Kagera Region, Engineer Kasekenya expressed his satisfaction with the project's progress, but emphasized the need for increased efforts to meet the set deadlines.

"The project is off to a good start. However, the supervising engineer must ensure close oversight of the contractor by deploying more machinery, workers, and extending working hours to ensure timely completion," stated Engineer Kasekenya.

He further commended CCECC, highlighting the company’s strong track record of delivering high-quality projects, noting that when properly managed, they consistently meet performance expectations.

The Deputy Minister also underscored the strategic importance of the Lusahunga-Rusumo road, which is a critical economic artery connecting Tanzania with neighboring countries, including Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In his remarks, TANROADS Kagera Regional Manager, Engineer Ntuli Mwaikokesya, reported that the construction progress has reached 20%.

He assured that the contractor would be closely monitored to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

He also emphasized that the road's completion will significantly enhance the transportation of goods, lowering operational costs for vehicles transporting products from Tanzania to neighboring countries, thereby boosting regional trade and economic integration.
