JKT Queens began their CAF U17 Girls Integrated Football Tournament (GIFT) campaign in style with a commanding 3-0 victory over Kenya's KAS at Azam Complex Stadium, Chamazi, in Dar es Salaam today.
Winfrida Gerald was the star of the first half, scoring two goals in the 27th and 33rd minutes to give JKT Queens a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.
The team continued their dominance in the second half, with Janeth Matulanga adding a third goal in the 47th minute to seal the victory.
Despite some missed opportunities, JKT Queens maintained control of the match, and the score remained 3-0 until the final whistle.
After the match, head coach Ester Chabuluma praised her team's performance but acknowledged there was room for improvement, promising to address mistakes in training.
She expressed her determination to keep the trophy in Tanzania, emphasizing that everyone on the team is committed to winning the tournament.
On the other hand, KAS head coach Jackline Juma commended JKT Queens for their quality, admitting her team struggled against their experienced opponents.
She noted that her players are still young but expressed confidence that they will improve in future matches.
JKT Queens' starting lineup included Mwanaidi Maulid Juma, Lidya Kabambo, Furaha Kifaru, Christer Bazil, Janeth Matulanga, Sundy Masasila, Yasinta Mitoga, Odilia France, Winfrida Gerald, Sabina Alex, and Angel Joseph.
The KAS lineup featured Scovia Onyango, Dorcas Glender, Jenevive Mithel, Grace Mwendwa, Faith Boke, Lindey Atieno, Brenda Achieng, Mitshel Muthama, Patience Asiko, Joyangela Valencia, and Halima Imbachi.
