Eight teams are set to compete in the highly anticipated Top 8 Cup Tournament, beginning today at Mji Mwema Grounds in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam.

The tournament coordinator, Issa Yahya, popularly known as "Kiiza," revealed this during the distribution of sports equipment provided by the sponsor, Togabe Super Sembe, to all participating teams.

The competing teams include Daladala FC, Kibugumo Wahenga, Mbeya Boys, Eagle, Gezaulole, Mwongozo, and Prisons.

Yahya emphasized the tournament's objective of promoting football by nurturing young talent and elevating the sport.

"The matches will follow a knockout format, with home-and-away games leading to the semifinals. The semifinals will also adopt a knockout structure," he explained.

The champions will take home a trophy and a cow, while the runners-up will receive two goats.

Kibugumo’s coach, Ahmad Sharif, expressed confidence in his team's preparations, stating, "We are ready for this tournament and determined to perform well.

We urge fans to attend in large numbers and support the growth of football in Kigamboni."

Similarly, Mbeya Boys’ coach, Erick Shimbusho, declared his team’s readiness to fight for the championship and urged sponsors to support grassroots talent.

"Many young players in the streets cannot showcase their skills due to a lack of sponsorship and opportunities. We need more support to develop these hidden talents," he said.

Former footballer Zuberi Ubwa highlighted the tournament as a vital platform for players to gain exposure. "This is an employment opportunity for many.

Players can attract attention from scouts, provided they maintain discipline on and off the pitch," he remarked.

Togabe's Marketing Officer, Chimo Mwe Togabe, encouraged stakeholders to support the initiative and promised an exciting tournament.

"We invite everyone to come and enjoy the thrilling football action. Let’s support the growth of our local talent," he said.

The Top 8 Cup Tournament is poised to deliver not just competitive matches but also an avenue for discovering and developing emerging football stars.
