Tanzania is gearing up to host the African Presidents’ Summit on Energy, set for January 27–28, 2024, with preparations now over 90% complete.
The Regional Commissioner (RC) of Dar es Salaam, Hon. Albert Chalamila, has expressed confidence in the city’s readiness after inspecting key sites and infrastructure.
On January 20, 2024, RC Chalamila toured various locations in Dar es Salaam, including Julius Nyerere International Airport, major roads, Karimjee Hall, and the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC).
He assured the public that final touches are underway, including the installation of modern lighting to ensure the city is well-lit and welcoming for the high-profile event.
He urged residents to maintain cleanliness and beautification efforts, not just for the summit but as part of their daily routine.
“Cleanliness and green spaces, such as tree and flower gardens, will enhance Dar es Salaam’s appeal as a prime destination for international conferences and investment opportunities,” he said.
RC Chalamila also revealed plans to temporarily close certain roads during the summit to create space for Tanzanian entrepreneurs and traders to showcase traditional and cultural products.
These exhibitions aim to promote Tanzania’s rich heritage and foster connections with international delegates.
Emphasizing the importance of peace and security, the Regional Commissioner highlighted Tanzania’s reputation as a stable and peaceful country, a key factor in attracting global investors and events.
In closing, he addressed the misuse of road reserves, reminding residents that parking in these areas is illegal.
He urged TANROADS to enforce regulations and ensure road reserves are used appropriately to maintain the city’s orderliness.
Dar es Salaam is ready to welcome the world, with preparations reflecting the city’s commitment to excellence and hospitality.
