BFT calls for support in boxing equipment drive

The Tanzania Boxing Federation (BFT) has called on stakeholders, sponsors, and industries across the country to support a new campaign aimed at providing boxing equipment to nurture talent and enhance the sport’s development nationwide.

The appeal was made on January 8, 2025, by Dar es Salaam Regional Sports Officer Adolf Halii during the launch of the campaign, which also featured the distribution of equipment to teams, clubs, and the Dar es Salaam Boxing Association (DABA).

Halii emphasized the critical role of the campaign in identifying and nurturing young boxing talent in various regions, enabling them to compete in both local and international tournaments.

“We invite stakeholders and sponsors to join hands in providing essential boxing equipment through this nationwide campaign. Together, we can empower our boxers and prepare them for greater opportunities,” said Halii.

He further highlighted the government’s ongoing support for sports, citing President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan's initiatives such as the "Goal with Mama" campaign, which supports football development. “In professional boxing, we now have the 'Knockout with Mama' initiative. We are confident her backing will extend to this effort, and it’s up to us to play our part and support her vision,” he added.

Ruger Kahwa, Chairman of the Committee for Competitions and Equipment at BFT, revealed that the campaign has already distributed boxing gear, including gloves and protective headgear, in the Kagera and Dar es Salaam regions. The distribution will continue in other regions in phases.

“Our goal is to ensure the safety and readiness of boxers during training by equipping them with high-quality gear. This initiative aims to cover every region in Tanzania, and we are counting on the support of stakeholders to make it a success,” said Kahwa.

The BFT is urging stakeholders and sponsors to actively participate in the campaign to empower young talents and raise the profile of boxing in Tanzania.
