Tanzania approves construction of TZS 5.6 Billion market in Kigoma

By Alfred Zacharia

Kigoma residents in the Kagunga area will soon benefit from a strategic market, eliminating the long distances they previously had to cover to find marketplaces for buying and selling goods and services.

This follows the government's approval of a contract to begin construction in the Kagunga area, Kigoma District.

The TZS 5.6 billion project is designed to bring services closer to the people and strengthen relationships between neighboring communities, as the market will be located near the border with Burundi.

The contract was signed by the Kigoma District Council, marking the official start of the market's construction in Kagunga Ward.

The facility will not only serve local traders but also those from neighboring Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, boosting business activities and contributing to the region’s economic growth.

The signing ceremony was presided over by Mr. Joseph Nyambwe, Chairman of the Kigoma District Council, who emphasized the importance of the contractor, GOPA CONTRACTORS, adhering to the terms of the agreement to ensure timely completion.

Mr. Linus Sikainda, Acting Director of the Kigoma District Council, confirmed that the construction will cost a total of 5.6 billion Tanzanian Shillings.

The government has already allocated 2 billion Shillings for the first phase of the project. This development is expected to drive economic growth in the district and increase the council’s revenue.

The contractor, Godfrey John Mwogera from GOPA CONTRACTORS, expressed his gratitude to the Sixth Phase Government for entrusting local contractors with this project.

He emphasized that this is an important step towards ensuring quality implementation of projects that contribute to community and national development.
