Simba SC delivered a stunning performance to defeat Kagera Sugar 5-2 in a thrilling NBC Tanzania Premier League match, climbing to the top of the standings. The match, played today, December 21, at Kaitaba Stadium in Kagera, marked a historic moment for Simba this season.
The emphatic win pushed Simba to 34 points, surpassing Azam FC, who are now in second place with 33 points.
Simba started strongly, opening the scoring in the 13th minute through Shomary Kapombe. Jean Charles Ahoua doubled the lead just before halftime in the 44th minute, giving Simba a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.
The second half saw even more dominance from Simba, with Fabrice Ngoma netting the third goal in the 53rd minute. Stephen Mukwala then added a fourth in the 66th minute.
Kagera Sugar managed to pull one back in the 79th minute, courtesy of Datius Peter. However, Mukwala struck again in the 85th minute to complete his brace and secure Simba's fifth goal. Cleophace Mkandala added a late consolation for Kagera in injury time (90+3).
Simba's performance sets a new milestone this season as the first team to score five goals in a single match. Additionally, the game stands as the highest-scoring encounter so far, with a total of seven goals.
After 13 matches, Simba has registered 11 wins, one draw, and one loss, collecting 34 points. In contrast, Kagera Sugar remains in 15th place with 11 points from 15 matches, having won only two games, drawn five, and lost eight.
Simba's dominant display underscores their ambitions to retain the league title as they continue to set the pace in the NBC Tanzania Premier League.
