Preparations for the National Veterans Football League are gaining momentum as the countdown begins to the much-anticipated kickoff slated for January 18, 2024.
The league promises to bring together football veterans from across Tanzania to showcase their skills and passion for the game.
According to ASP Hashim Abdallah, Secretary of the Tanzania Veterans Football Association, the league will commence with a thrilling curtain-raiser – the Community Shield match – pitting veteran teams of Simba SC and Yanga SC.
This much-awaited clash will take place on January 12 at the KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
"Preparations are on track. Initially, the response was slow, but after intensified efforts, the turnout has been remarkable.
Teams from various regions are showing great interest in participating. Only registered teams with valid licenses have been cleared to compete," Abdallah revealed.
A total of 18 veteran teams from different regions have confirmed their participation, including Simba, Yanga, Azam, Ilala, Temeke, Unyanyembe, Morogoro, Mipango, Mango Garden, and Uhuru Kibada, among others.
The teams will battle it out to claim the prestigious title in what promises to be a showcase of both talent and experience.
The league is not just about competition; it also aims to promote unity, fitness, and camaraderie among former players while inspiring the younger generation.
As the kickoff date approaches, excitement continues to build, and football enthusiasts eagerly await this historic event.
