Morogoro Regional Commissioner Adam Malima (pictured in cap) has issued a stern warning to anyone intending to disrupt the upcoming voter registration process for the local government elections.

His remarks came during a press conference in Morogoro, emphasizing that strict actions will be taken against individuals attempting to sabotage this essential democratic exercise.

The voter registration will commence on October 11, 2024, with Malima reporting that an estimated 1,816,485 individuals are eligible to register, which represents 53.2% of the projected population of 3,414,507 in Morogoro. This figure reflects a 3.4% annual population increase based on the 2022 census, which recorded a total of 3,197,104 residents in the region.

"I do not expect any rational person to discourage others from registering. It is every citizen's right to register and choose their preferred leaders," Malima stated.

He assured the public that the regional and district security committees are well-prepared to ensure the registration process proceeds smoothly and as planned.

A total of 3,752 registration centers will be set up across the region, with 3,998 registrars and 242 assistant registrars designated to facilitate the process.

"We have a sufficient number of reserve registrars. If any registrar fails to perform their duties or violates regulations, a replacement will be available immediately," Malima added.

He further noted that registration centers will be located in government offices and other accessible locations to ensure that citizens can easily participate in the registration process.

Malinyi District Council Executive Director Khamis Katimba indicated that his council aims to register 120,000 individuals.

He announced plans to promote awareness and provide education to individuals with special needs through events scheduled for October 14, coinciding with the commemoration of the late Julius Nyerere, Tanzania's founding father.

The Regional boss’ statements highlight the government's commitment to ensuring a transparent and inclusive voter registration process, paving the way for a fair local government election.
