The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Dr. Charles Msonde, has urged the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) to establish a structured system for building the capacity of its employees.
He emphasized the importance of offering both short- and long-term training across all levels of staff to keep up with the fast-paced technological advancements.
Dr. Msonde made this call on October 10, 2024, while addressing TANROADS employees in Tabora.
He highlighted the need for the agency to develop a comprehensive, year-long training program to ensure its workforce performs their duties efficiently.
"It is essential to provide training opportunities for the employees under your supervision. Technology is rapidly evolving in various sectors, including construction. To maintain skilled professionals, it is crucial to stay aligned with the latest technological developments," Dr. Msonde stated.
He further urged TANROADS staff to maintain high standards of integrity by adhering to relevant guidelines, regulations, laws, and ethical standards, which are vital for improving the agency's overall performance.
Dr. Msonde also stressed the importance of collaboration between the agency’s leadership and its staff, calling for transparency and accountability in executing daily responsibilities.
TANROADS Chief Executive Engineer, Mohamed Besta, assured the Deputy Permanent Secretary that the agency would continue to enhance the skills and expertise of its staff nationwide, further building TANROADS’ reputation for delivering quality services.
"I assure you, Deputy Permanent Secretary, we will continue to build the capacity of our employees and strengthen our TECU unit to effectively manage our projects," said Engineer Besta.
Meanwhile, TANROADS Manager for Tabora, Engineer Raphael Mlimaji, provided an update on the region’s road network, noting that Tabora has 2,188 kilometers of roads, of which 827.23 kilometers are paved and 1,360.86 kilometers are gravel roads.
