Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure in the Tabora region, aiming to boost agricultural productivity and stimulate the local economy.

Speaking during the first day of his four-day tour of the region, Dr. Mpango called on residents of Igunga and Nzega districts to increase their production of both food and cash crops.

He underscored the government's determination to construct modern roads that would ease the transportation of agricultural goods from farms to markets, thereby supporting local businesses and enhancing livelihoods.

Addressing the Deputy Minister of Construction, Engineer Godfrey Kasekenya, the Vice President emphasized the critical importance of keeping roads accessible at all times.

“Deputy Minister Kasekenya, ensure that roads remain passable year-round, and that contractors meet their deadlines, as the necessary construction funds have been allocated,” Dr. Mpango stated.

Deputy Minister Eng. Kasekenya outlined the government’s plans to rehabilitate the Singida-Shelui-Nzega road (220 km), noting that feasibility studies and detailed designs for the Shelui-Nzega (128 km) and Shelui-Singida (92 km) sections have been completed.

He also highlighted ongoing efforts to accelerate the construction of the Tabora-Mambali-Bukene-Itobo road (114 km) and the Nzega-Itobo-Kagongwa section (65 km), which will provide a more direct link between Tabora and the Shinyanga region.

“We have comprehensive plans to upgrade the region’s infrastructure,” Kasekenya said. “In addition to road construction, we will install lighting and signage in urban areas to enhance road functionality and support local businesses.”

Dr. Mpango’s tour of Tabora will continue, with plans to inspect various development projects in Tabora and Uyui districts in the coming days.
