The Women’s League of the Chama cha Mapinduzi (UWT) Chairperson Mary Chatanda, has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting President Samia Suluhu Hassan's initiatives aimed at promoting the use of clean cooking energy.
Speaking in Dodoma, Chatanda urged citizens to abandon traditional, polluting cooking methods in favor of modern, clean energy solutions.
“Access to clean cooking energy has become more affordable, and while we support the government's agenda, we will continue to advocate for lower costs of gas cylinders to ensure that more citizens can afford them,” Chatanda stated.
She highlighted the dangers women face when searching for firewood in remote areas, where they often encounter gender-based violence and other risks.
“Switching to clean cooking energy will liberate women and children from the health hazards and violence associated with searching for firewood,” she added.
Tanzania is implementing a Clean Cooking Energy Strategy aimed at ensuring that 80% of its population utilizes clean cooking energy by 2034.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance public health and safety, while also addressing environmental concerns related to traditional cooking methods.
