Morogoro Regional Commissioner Adam Malima (pictured) has called on the Tanzania Institute of Quantity Surveyors (TIQS) to actively promote its role within the government and the community.
Speaking at the opening of TIQS's 30th Annual General Meeting in Morogoro, on 11th October 2024, the regional boss emphasized the necessity for greater visibility and acknowledgment of the institute’s contributions to construction projects and technology.
“I am a stakeholder with numerous ongoing projects in the districts and councils. I recognize and need your expertise. It is essential to have a quantity surveyor involved in every project,” Malima stated.
He urged TIQS to uphold professional ethics while executing their duties. Highlighting recent legal reforms by the Ministry of Works aimed at enhancing the involvement of construction professionals in project management, he encouraged stakeholders in the construction sector to utilize forums like this to showcase their work and learn new technologies that can enhance efficiency and lead to the development of quality infrastructure.
Furthermore, Qs. Mwanahamisi Kitogo, Director of Electrical and Technical Services from the Ministry of Works, revealed that the government is implementing strategies to empower local professionals in construction projects, ensuring that opportunities benefit homegrown talent.
TIQS President Bernard Ndakidemi shared that the institute currently boasts 1,215 registered members who pay annual fees and has been operational since 1987.
This year's meeting carries the theme, "Increasing Construction Costs in Public Projects, now is the Time for Action," underscoring the urgent need for effective management of rising construction expenses.
