TBS engages mining sector stakeholders and public on mineral issues

The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has engaged stakeholders in the mining sector and the public at large to provide education on matters related to the industry.

The Bureau discussed these groups during the 7th National Mining Technology Exhibition, which began on October 2 and is taking place at Bombambili grounds in Geita. The event will conclude on October 13.

The exhibition was officially opened over the weekend by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Dr. Doto Biteko.

Speaking to the media at the exhibition, TBS Public Relations Officer, Neema Mtemvu, stated that the Bureau is responsible for developing standards within the mining sector. She noted that the exhibition provides an opportunity to meet stakeholders from the sector and offer them valuable education.

In addition to engaging with mining sector stakeholders and the general public, Mtemvu emphasized that TBS is using the exhibition to connect with entrepreneurs, listen to their challenges, and offer solutions. The Bureau is also educating and encouraging them to produce goods that meet certified quality standards set by TBS.

Mtemvu further explained that TBS is committed to supporting the government's goal of promoting economic growth by ensuring entrepreneurs manufacture products that meet the required standards. The government allocates Sh 250 million annually to cover the certification costs for entrepreneurs' products, allowing them to receive these services for free through TBS.

"That's why we've seized this opportunity at the Mining Technology Exhibition to educate participants on the procedures required to certify their products at no cost," Mtemvu added.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Biteko highlighted that the Sixth Phase Government continues to improve, attract, and welcome investors in the mining sector to boost individual economic growth and the nation's overall revenue.
