Government urges continuous training for public institutions

By Alfred Zacharia

The Tanzanian government has called on public institutions to prioritize onboard trainings to boost staff efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.

This initiative was announced by Mr. Xavier Mrope Daudi, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President's Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance, during the closing ceremony of a three-day induction training for newly appointed heads of public institutions.

The training, organized by the Office of the Treasury Registrar in partnership with the Uongozi Institute, aimed to equip new leaders with essential skills and knowledge to perform their roles competently while adhering to the principles of good governance.

"Establish a culture of providing induction training for your employees," Mr. Daudi emphasized, underscoring the significance of continuous professional development.

He further encouraged the new heads to share their insights with their teams, stating, "Providing our employees with the appropriate knowledge and skills will be a catalyst for the development of our public institutions."

Mr. Daudi highlighted the government's substantial investment of TZS 75.8 trillion in 309 public institutions nationwide, stressing the importance of effective management to maximize this investment.

In support of the efforts, Treasury Registrar Mr. Nehemiah Mchechu reassured the heads of institutions that his office is ready to assist them.

"Make use of the Office of the Treasury Registrar. We are your link to achieving your desired goals," he stated.

Mr. Mchechu also affirmed that his office would continue implementing reforms within public institutions to enhance their operations and reduce reliance on the central government.

He emphasizes the necessity for change, noting that while challenges may arise, progress is essential for advancing public service.

This focus on training aligns with the government’s broader commitment to strengthen public institutions and improve service delivery for the benefit of all Tanzanians.
