The Kinondoni District Police has marked the 60th
anniversary of the Tanzania Police Force with various community activities,
including a beach cleanup and public education on contemporary issues.
The celebrations took place on September 9 at the
iconic Coco Beach in Dar es Salaam, organized by the Kinondoni District Police.
Speaking at the event, Assistant Commissioner of
Police and Staff Officer for Kinondoni Police Region, Pili Misungwi,
highlighted that the activities aimed to foster cooperation between the police
and the community.
The anniversary’s focus was on environmental cleanups,
public education, and blood donations as a means of building stronger ties.
"As part of our 60th anniversary, we decided to
collaborate with the community through activities that strengthen the
relationship between the police and the public. Today, we chose Coco Beach due
to its significance as a tourist destination frequented by both international
and local visitors, symbolizing Tanzania on a diplomatic level. Our commitment
is to engage in activities that promote good relations, such as cleaning public
spaces, educating the public, and donating blood," said Officer Misungwi.
Officer Misungwi also emphasized educating the public
on gender-based violence, encouraging cooperation with the police to combat
these issues and take appropriate action against perpetrators.
She further mentioned that police have been
reinforcing security at Coco Beach and will continue to ensure the safety of
the area.
Razack Kimwaga, a representative of the business
community at Coco Beach, commended the police for their efforts in public
education, noting that it would help reduce incidents at the beach.
He urged local business owners to acknowledge the
police's role in maintaining peace and security for all beach users.
The 60th anniversary celebrations align with the theme
"Better Police Services for the Public Through Mindset Change, Law
Enforcement, and the Use of ICT." The national celebrations are set to
take place on September 17, 2024.
