FARAJA YA TASNIA: Tanzania sets to honor entertainment legends

By Lookman Miraji

The entertainment industry in Tanzania has become one of the biggest ways to showcase the country’s talent and culture to the world.

Over the years, we've seen incredible talent in areas like music, film, sports, and art that have brought joy and pride to many.

But along the way, we’ve also lost some great talents who played major roles in making the industry what it is today.

To honor these stars, the “MAMA ONGEA NA MWANAO” Foundation, led by Steven Nyerere, has planned a special event to remember and celebrate those who made a big impact in entertainment.

This event, happening on Saturday, September 7, at Leaders Club grounds in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, will bring together government leaders, celebrities, and fans to pay tribute to these legends. It’s a chance to remember and pray for those who shaped the entertainment scene in Tanzania.

The event will also support families of those we’ve lost, offering assistance to help them cope. It’s a meaningful way to show that the community hasn’t forgotten them.

Some of the stars being remembered include the legendary comedian Mzee Majuto, real name Alhaji Amri Athumani, who made millions laugh with his unforgettable jokes and acting. Mzee Majuto passed away on August 8, 2018, but his influence on comedy still lives on.

Also celebrated will be the iconic singer Bi Kidude, whose soulful Taarab music touched many hearts. Known for her powerful voice and impactful lyrics, Bi Kidude passed away on April 17, 2013, at an estimated age of 102, leaving behind a rich legacy in music.

Other stars being remembered include Steven Kanumba, Albert Mangwea, Noel Mwingira, Ruge Mutahaba, Gadner G. Habash, and many more whose contributions continue to inspire today’s artists.

This event is not just about remembering; it’s about celebrating the amazing talents that have brought us together, inspired us, and continue to shape the future of Tanzanian entertainment.
