Dr. Doto
Biteko, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, has called on African
countries to use and innovate with their energy resources to boost economic
growth.
He spoke
on September 5, 2024, in Windhoek, Namibia, at an international conference on
using hydrogen to produce electricity.
Dr. Biteko
emphasized the need for African countries to work together, set up systems, and
implement policies that support sustainable technologies.
He gave an
example of Tanzania, which is working on providing reliable and affordable
energy to boost development. He encouraged African countries to adopt clean
energy to reduce costs and health problems.

Dr. Biteko
acknowledged the financial, infrastructure, and market challenges in using
hydrogen but stressed that cooperation among African countries could provide
solutions.
He explained
Tanzanian commitment to lead in clean energy and working with other African
nations through better policies.
The
conference was opened by Namibia's Vice President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. She
urged participants to find ways to use local resources for national growth.
Namibia is
proud of its hydrogen use in industries, which benefits the country and its
neighbors.
Tanzania
is just starting with hydrogen energy and is using the conference to learn
more. Other African countries exploring hydrogen energy include Namibia, South
Africa, Kenya, Mauritania, and Morocco.
