Morogoro. Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Hussein Bashe, revealed ongoing negotiations between the Ministry of Energy and Mtibwa Sugar Factory for a new 132-kilovolt power line to meet the factory's demands.
During President Samia Suluhu Hassan's visit to Mtibwa Sugar Factory to inaugurate a new irrigation dam, Hon. Bashe stated, "We've had preliminary talks with Deputy Minister of Energy, Judith Kapinga, on delivering high-voltage power to Mtibwa. After thorough discussions, implementation will begin."
These initial talks will pave the way for further negotiations to ensure Mtibwa receives the requested power, boosting efficiency.
The plan includes an agreement for Mtibwa Sugar Factory to construct the power line from the receiving and distribution station.
Mtibwa Sugar Board Chairman, Seif Ally Seif, mentioned that only two of the dam’s six pumps are operational due to insufficient power. The existing 33-kilovolt line falls short of the 132-kilovolt requirement needed for all pumps to function.
Mvomero MP, Jonas Van Zeeland, expressed gratitude to the government for allocating nearly TZS 28 billion to rural electrification projects in Kilombero District. He noted that of the 60 villages previously without power, 48 now have electricity.
