Kinondoni District Commissioner, Hon. Saad Mtambule, led a tree conservation campaign on August 24, 2024 morning in Kunduchi, Dar es Salaam.

The event, dubbed "Irrigation Tour," was organized by Wise Foundation, a non-governmental organization focused on environmental conservation and empowering women.

The main activity was checking the growth of trees that were planted on February 17, 2024.

Mr. Mtambule praised Wise Foundation for the organizing the tree-planting activity.

"This campaign will help preserve our environment and create jobs for many people in our country," he said.

Hon. Mtambule also encouraged residents of Kinondoni to support environmental conservation by planting more trees.

"Environmental conservation is a national priority. Let’s make Kinondoni a green district by planting trees," he said.

He urged young people to explore opportunities in the environmental sector, regardless to their education level.

"Challenges often bring opportunities. In the environmental sector, these challenges can turn into jobs, protect the environment, and create income," he added.

Doricca Ambonisye, the Executive Director of Wise Foundation, expressed her happiness with the campaign’s success.

She explained that the campaign was successful because of strong teamwork between Wise Foundation and other organizations.

"We are happy that many organizations, both governmental and private, trusted us and joined hands in this campaign. Their support was key to our success," she said.

"Our main goal is to build a society that not only conserves the environment but also ensures sustainable positive outcomes. We want to help Tanzanian youth and women move from being consumers to producers," she noted.

The event ended with an award ceremony. Hon. Mtambule received a special award for his support and cooperation with Wise Foundation. Other awards were given to organizations that played a big role in the campaign.

Environmental experts praised the "Irrigation Tour" campaign. They noted that about 98% of the trees planted in February have grown well as expected.
