Tanzania’s ambition to strengthen local participation, expand domestic manufacturing and attract technology-driven investment in the mining sector took centre stage during the opening of the 10th Africa Mine Expo 2026 in Dar es Salaam, bringing together government representatives, industry associations, technology providers, investors and other stakeholders from the mining value chain.

The exhibition provides a platform for connecting Tanzania’s mining industry with international suppliers, innovative technologies and investment opportunities, while highlighting the importance of ensuring that the country’s mineral wealth generates wider economic benefits for Tanzanian businesses and communities.

Government prioritises local content and mineral value addition .

In his address as the guest of honour, Eng:Yahya Samamba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, emphasised the importance of strengthening local content implementation and creating opportunities for Tanzanian-owned businesses to participate more meaningfully in the mining industry.

His remarks highlighted the role of government policies and regulations in encouraging the use of goods manufactured in Tanzania, supporting domestic producers and creating a more favourable environment for local investment and industrial development.

Samamba also pointed to Tanzania’s mineral potential, including graphite, nickel and iron ore, as opportunities to expand industrial production and mineral value addition. Developing domestic capacity to process and manufacture products from these resources could help reduce dependence on imported goods, strengthen industrial capabilities and create employment opportunities.

The message underscored the importance of linking mineral extraction with a broader industrial development agenda in which local businesses participate not only as suppliers but also as manufacturers, investors and partners in the mining value chain.

Expo Group highlights the importance of industry collaboration .

Duncan Njange, Country Director for East Africa at Expo Group, represented the exhibition organiser in highlighting the importance of bringing together stakeholders from across the mining industry.

Industry exhibitions provide opportunities for businesses to showcase equipment, products and technological innovations while building relationships with potential customers, investors and strategic partners.

For Tanzania, such engagement is particularly relevant as the mining sector continues to create demand for specialised equipment, engineering services, safety solutions, maintenance systems and other products required for efficient mining operations.

The gathering also offers local companies an opportunity to learn from international suppliers, explore commercial partnerships and identify technologies that can support productivity, operational safety and competitiveness.

TAMISA calls for stronger participation by Tanzanian suppliers .

Japhet Mussa, Chief Executive Officer of the Tanzania Mining Industry Suppliers Association (TAMISA), called for greater participation by Tanzanian businesses in supplying goods and services to the mining sector.

He highlighted the association’s role in advocating for its members, connecting local suppliers with mining companies, supporting capacity building and innovation, and promoting partnerships that enable domestic businesses to grow.

Mussa cited an estimated mining procurement market of approximately TSh 5.3 trillion as a significant opportunity for Tanzanian manufacturers, suppliers and service providers. The figure, as presented in his address, highlights the potential scale of demand that local businesses could seek to serve.

He urged investors and international companies to consider partnerships that go beyond importing and selling finished products, encouraging joint ventures, technology transfer, skills development and investment in domestic manufacturing.

Mussa also highlighted the industrial investment opportunities associated with STAMICO’s proposed industrial initiative at Buswagi, inviting local and international investors to explore manufacturing partnerships and production facilities serving the mining sector.

His address reinforced TAMISA’s position that stronger local supply chains could help retain more economic value within Tanzania while improving the ability of domestic enterprises to meet mining companies’ requirements for quality, reliability, safety and efficiency.

Skyruby showcases technology for mining efficiency.

Mohit Adhe, Director of Skyruby, highlighted the role of technology in improving the efficiency and profitability of mining operations.

In his presentation, Adhe discussed fleet management solutions, fuel monitoring and fuel filtration technologies designed to help mining operators improve oversight of fuel consumption, strengthen handling procedures and maintain more reliable operational records.

Fuel management is an important consideration for mining operations because fuel is a major operating expense, particularly for open-pit mines that rely on heavy machinery and transport equipment. Accurate monitoring and reporting can help operators identify inefficiencies, improve accountability and make better-informed operational decisions.

Adhe invited participants to visit Skyruby’s exhibition stand, B143, to learn more about its solutions and explore their potential application in mining operations.

The presentation illustrated how technology providers can contribute to the wider objectives of improving productivity, managing operating costs and strengthening operational safety within the mining sector.

The messages delivered by the government, Expo Group, TAMISA and Skyruby reflected complementary priorities for Tanzania’s mining industry: effective local content implementation, stronger industrial capacity, international business partnerships and the adoption of technology to improve operational performance.

The challenge for Tanzania is to translate these opportunities into measurable economic outcomes, including greater participation by domestic suppliers, expanded manufacturing, skills development, technology transfer and employment creation.

For local enterprises, the exhibition offers an opportunity to identify buyers, develop partnerships and understand the technical standards required by mining companies. For international investors, it provides a platform to explore opportunities to establish production capacity and collaborate with Tanzanian businesses.

As Tanzania continues to develop its mineral resources, the relationship between mining, domestic manufacturing and investment will remain central to determining how much value the sector generates across the wider economy.

The 10th Africa Mine Expo 2026 therefore serves not only as a showcase for mining equipment and services but also as a forum for examining how Tanzania can strengthen local participation and build a more competitive industrial base around its mineral resources.
