The Tanzania Mining Industry Suppliers Association (TAMISA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening local participation in Tanzania’s mining sector after supporting the 10th Africa Mine Expo 2026 in Dar es Salaam, using the industry gathering to call for greater investment in domestic manufacturing, stronger business partnerships and increased opportunities for Tanzanian suppliers.

Speaking during the exhibition’s opening ceremony, TAMISA Chief Executive Officer Japhet Mussa highlighted the importance of ensuring that Tanzania’s mineral wealth generates tangible economic opportunities for local businesses, manufacturers and service providers.

Mussa said TAMISA’s mandate includes advocating for its members, connecting suppliers with mining companies, promoting local content, supporting capacity building and innovation, and encouraging investment in local manufacturing.

He emphasised that exhibitions such as Africa Mine Expo provide an important platform for Tanzanian businesses to connect with international investors, discover new technologies, negotiate commercial partnerships and explore opportunities to supply goods and services to mining operations.

According to Mussa, the mining sector’s procurement market was estimated at approximately TSh 5.3 trillion, representing a significant opportunity for domestic suppliers and manufacturers seeking to expand their participation in the industry. The figure was cited in his address at the exhibition.

He called on local businesses to use such platforms strategically by building relationships with reliable international partners, exploring joint ventures and investing in production capacity that can meet the mining sector’s technical and operational requirements.

TAMISA advocates for local manufacturing.

A central message in Mussa’s address was the need for Tanzania to move beyond dependence on imported mining supplies towards developing a stronger domestic manufacturing base.

He encouraged international investors to consider Tanzania not merely as a market for finished products but also as a destination for manufacturing partnerships, technology transfer, skills development and investment in local production facilities.

Mussa also highlighted investment opportunities associated with STAMICO’s proposed industrial initiative at Buswagi, inviting local and international investors to explore opportunities to establish industries serving the mining sector.

He stressed that meaningful partnerships could help Tanzanian enterprises improve their competitiveness, create employment and retain a greater share of the economic value generated by mining activities.

The TAMISA CEO further underscored the importance of compliance with Tanzania’s local content requirements, noting that opportunities reserved for wholly Tanzanian-owned companies must be respected in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Through its participation in Africa Mine Expo, TAMISA reinforced its role as a link between domestic suppliers, mining companies, government institutions and international business partners, with the objective of expanding opportunities for Tanzanian enterprises throughout the mining value chain.

TAMISA announces African Construction & Mining Excellence Awards.

Beyond its participation in the exhibition, TAMISA announced the upcoming African Construction & Mining Excellence Awards (ACAMEA), scheduled for 6 November 2026 at Johari Rotana, Dar es Salaam, according to Mussa’s address.

The awards are intended to bring together stakeholders from the construction and mining industries for an evening celebrating excellence, recognising significant contributions and highlighting achievements across the two sectors.

The initiative also aims to encourage innovation, recognise industry performance and strengthen collaboration among companies and professionals contributing to Tanzania’s construction and mining industries.

By bringing industry stakeholders together beyond the exhibition floor, ACAMEA offers another platform for recognising achievements, strengthening professional networks and promoting a shared commitment to industrial development.

TAMISA’s support for Africa Mine Expo and its announcement of ACAMEA awards that reflect its broader engagement in creating platforms through which businesses can connect, exchange knowledge and explore opportunities for growth.

As Tanzania seeks to deepen local participation in mining and expand its industrial capacity, the association continues to emphasise the importance of ensuring that domestic suppliers and manufacturers are positioned to benefit from the opportunities created by the sector.
