Tanzania’s Netball Second Division League is set to begin on October 11 in Tanga Region, with the week-long competition running until October 18, 2026, as teams battle for promotion to the Premier League next season.
However, only 10 of the 25 eligible teams have confirmed their participation, raising the importance of continued coordination between the Tanzania Netball Association (CHANETA) and clubs ahead of the competition.
CHANETA Secretary-General Rahma Kilimba said preparations were progressing well, with the association working to ensure that the tournament runs smoothly and provides teams with a fair opportunity to compete for promotion.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, Kilimba said all 25 eligible teams had been invited to participate, but only 10 had completed confirmation of their participation by the time of the interview.
She said the league was an important platform for clubs to showcase their talent, improve their competitiveness and pursue a place in the country’s top-flight netball competition.
“Preparations have gone well, and the association is finalising its arrangements while clubs are also making their own preparations to ensure we achieve our goals,” Kilimba said.
She added that CHANETA was moving forward with the tournament under the theme, “AFCON Is Ours: We Are Ready to Welcome It,” emphasising the shared responsibility of sports stakeholders in supporting preparations for the continental football event.
Kilimba identified overlapping activities and the government’s sports calendar as key challenges, noting that changing weather conditions and the fact that many stakeholders are public servants had affected scheduling.
Despite these challenges, she said preparations remained on track, with participating clubs continuing to pay their registration fees to help the association secure essential requirements in time.
The 10 teams that have confirmed their participation are TRA Mtwara, Tanga Jiji, Mabenz Dar, JKT Mgulani (JKT Ndogo) Dar, Office of the Vice-President Dodoma, TRC Queens Dar, Rock City Queens Mwanza, Sedico Queens Mwanza, Mbeya City Queens and Singida Netball Queens.
The competition is expected to give participating clubs an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, strengthen their performance and compete for promotion, while contributing to the continued growth of netball in Tanzania.
