The Dar es Salaam Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (DAWASA) has donated assistive devices and essential supplies to people with disabilities, as part of efforts to promote inclusion during Customer Service Week.

The donation, handed over to Equal Right for All, an organisation based in Mabibo, Ubungo District, includes wheelchairs, tricycles, white canes for people with visual impairments, walking crutches and sunscreen for people with albinism.

Speaking during the handover, DAWASA Director of Customer Service Ritamary Lwabulinda said customer service should go beyond the provision of clean water and sanitation to include addressing the needs of vulnerable groups.

“Quality customer service is not limited to access to clean water and sanitation. It also involves caring for and supporting different groups in society,” she said.

Ms Lwabulinda urged the public to support people with disabilities and others in need, saying such efforts would enable them to participate more fully in community activities and contribute to national development.

The donation comes amid broader calls for institutions and stakeholders to make their services and community initiatives more inclusive, particularly for people who face mobility and other accessibility challenges.

Equal Right for All chairperson Said Halili thanked DAWASA for the support and called on other institutions and stakeholders to follow its example by helping people with disabilities access essential assistive equipment.

The donation formed part of DAWASA’s activities to mark Customer Service Week, an annual occasion for organisations to reflect on customer needs and strengthen relationships with the communities they serve.
