Tanzania and Russia are seeking to deepen economic ties in trade, investment, mining, energy and technology as the two countries explore new areas of cooperation that could expand business opportunities and support development.
The push emerged yesterday during talks between Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo and a Russian delegation led by Denis Agafonov, Director of Analysis in the Office of the President of the Russian Federation.
The discussions placed digital technology among the areas earmarked for stronger cooperation, alongside education, health, mining, trade, investment, fisheries, the blue economy, tourism, transport, manufacturing, agriculture and energy.
The two sides said greater cooperation would seek to attract sustainable investment, strengthen energy and food security and promote the use of modern technology to support economic development.
For Tanzania, the areas under discussion cover several sectors with direct implications for investment, production, employment and access to technology, particularly in mining, agriculture, manufacturing, energy and the digital economy.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Russian delegation to engage Tanzanian stakeholders from different sectors on potential areas of collaboration and the implementation of development projects.
Mr Agafonov thanked the Tanzanian Government for facilitating the meetings, saying they had enabled the delegation to engage stakeholders and discuss strategies for strengthening cooperation.
The talks are part of ongoing efforts to expand Tanzania's international economic partnerships and attract investment and technology to priority sectors of the economy.
