Tanzania is seeking to deepen its foothold in the Indian tourism market by hosting 13 travel agents from the country for a week-long familiarisation trip aimed at turning industry contacts into more tourist arrivals.
The agents, hosted by the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) in collaboration with the Tanzanian Embassy in India, are in the country from September 28 to October 4, 2026, to experience key tourism attractions and meet local operators.
The initiative comes as Tanzania seeks to expand its tourism source markets, with India already ranking among the country’s six leading markets for international visitors.
Tanzanian Ambassador to India Anisa Mbega said the embassy would continue working with tourism stakeholders in India to promote the country’s attractions and strengthen the sector’s contribution to the economy.
She said bringing travel agents to Tanzania would allow them to experience the destinations first-hand, giving them a better basis for marketing the country to potential travellers in India.
The delegation is led by Himanshu Patil, president and chairman of an Indian tour operators’ association, who said the visit would also focus on building business links with Tanzanian tourism companies.
The agents held business-to-business (B2B) meetings with Tanzanian tour operators before starting their field visits, creating an opportunity for the two sides to discuss partnerships and tourism packages targeting the Indian market.
For Tanzania’s tourism industry, such direct engagements are intended to strengthen links between travel sellers in India and local operators, potentially widening the number of Indian travellers booking holidays in the country.
The delegation will visit the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Serengeti National Park and Zanzibar during its stay.
The familiarisation trip is part of TTB’s broader efforts to promote Tanzania in international markets by combining destination visits with direct engagement between foreign travel agents and domestic tourism businesses.
