TRA Chief calls for stronger TISEZA cooperation to attract investors

Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Commissioner General Yusuph Juma Mwenda has called for closer cooperation between the tax body and the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) to make it easier for investors to understand tax requirements and establish businesses in the country.

Mr Mwenda made the call after visiting the TISEZA pavilion at the Kizimkazi Festival, where he commended the authority for its role in promoting investment and supporting projects that contribute to government revenue and economic activity.

He said stronger coordination between TISEZA and TRA was essential, particularly during investment promotion missions and other programmes aimed at attracting both domestic and foreign investors.

According to Mr Mwenda, investors should have direct access to tax experts who can provide clear guidance on taxation and revenue systems before and after they establish their businesses.

The approach, he said, would help reduce uncertainty for investors while ensuring businesses understand and comply with tax obligations.

“Investors need clear information on tax matters so they can make informed decisions and operate their businesses in compliance with the law,” Mr Mwenda said.

TRA is among government institutions providing services through TISEZA’s One Stop Facilitation Centre (OSFC), a platform designed to bring together key agencies involved in the registration and establishment of investment projects.

Through the centre, investors can access services from relevant institutions under one roof, helping reduce the time and procedures involved in starting businesses.

For Tanzanians, stronger coordination between investment and tax authorities could also translate into a more efficient investment environment, increased business activity, job opportunities and a broader domestic tax base.

The collaboration comes as the government continues efforts to attract productive investment while strengthening domestic revenue collection to finance public services and development programmes.
