The Tanzania Chess Association(TACA)said its players are ready for the coming Mozambique Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) Friends rapid chess tournament.
The two days tournament gets underway on Friday in Maputo ,Mozambique and the country will be represented by Pasar Nasser and Neema Kisanga and they will be accompanied by the association president Geoffrey Mwanyika.
TACA information officer Mussa Mangula in an interview said the two players are in good mood ahead of the tournament and TACA president (Mwayika )will attend FIDE and other Chess conferences and meetings which will be held alongside the tournament .
“ Our two players Pasar Nasser and Neema Kisanga were training at Don Bosco ,Upanga Campus and all are in good mood ahead of the Games and its our hope that they will perform well at the Mozambique tournament , its it will be a very tough tournament ,but they are ready,” he said .
Mangula said the two were selected after an impressive performance at the previous National Championships In Dar es Salaam and have been preparing well ahead of the tournament which gets underway on Friday to Saturday in Maputo .
Pasar was the winner in men category while Neema was runners up in Women category respectively.
Mangula thanked the organizers ( Mozambican Chess Federation and partners)for inviting the Tanzania Chess Team to the tournament whose purpose is to promote the development and popularization of chess in Portuguese-speaking countries and SADC Nations and also to strengthen institutional, sporting, and cultural cooperation among participants.
The tournament format is Rapid of 9 rounds with a time control of 15 minutes plus 10 seconds increment, and a Blitz tournament of 11 rounds with a time control of 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment and they will also be Separate Open and Women’s events.
He said competing at the maiden CPLP and SADC friends Chess Tournament reflect TACA continued commitment to promoting competitive chess and creating opportunities for Tanzanian players to gain valuable international experience
