Tanga Regional Administrative Secretary Rashid Mchatta has praised the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) for improving access to weather information, saying accurate forecasts are increasingly important for planning and productivity.
Mr Mchatta made the remarks on August 6, 2026, after receiving an explanation on weather science from TMA experts at the authority’s pavilion during the NaneNane agricultural exhibition in Morogoro.
He said his interaction with the meteorological experts had given him a deeper appreciation of the science behind weather forecasting and the expertise required to provide reliable information.
“Weather science is fascinating when you follow it closely. Your expertise is also different from other scientific fields, so I commend you for the good work you are doing in weather forecasting,” Mr Mchatta said.
The official’s remarks come as TMA continues to use the NaneNane exhibitions to educate farmers, businesses and other members of the public on the importance of weather information in decision-making.
Weather forecasts are particularly important to agriculture, where information on rainfall patterns and other weather conditions can help farmers plan planting, crop management and harvesting activities.
At the Morogoro exhibition, visitors are also being introduced to different channels through which TMA distributes weather information, including its digital platforms.
The authority is encouraging stakeholders to register on its systems so they can receive weather updates electronically, a move aimed at expanding access to timely meteorological information.
The exhibitions are being held under the theme “Know the Market, Increase Productivity, Implement Vision 2050,” and run from August 1 to 8, 2026.
