One week after its official launch in Tanzania, ORIJIN has continued to attract attention, with discussions about the new beverage spreading across social gatherings and social media platforms.
The beverage, introduced by Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL), has drawn interest mainly because of its distinctive combination of bitter and sweet flavours, which the company says are inspired by African herbs, roots and fruits.
Since its launch, consumers who have sampled the drink have been sharing their views about its taste and character, with reactions ranging from comparisons with traditional beverages to descriptions of it as a different experience from more familiar products.
The debate has been particularly visible on social media, where consumers have continued to exchange opinions after trying the beverage for the first time.
For some, the combination of flavours offers a reminder of beverages associated with traditional African ingredients. Others view the product as a new addition to the increasingly diverse beverage market.
The continued discussion comes as the beverage is being offered in different formats, including ORIJIN Bitters and ORIJIN Mixed, also known as ready-to-drink (RTD).
ORIJIN Bitters is available in a 750-millilitre bottle at TSh15,000, while the 200-millilitre bottle is priced at TSh5,000. ORIJIN Mixed is available at TSh3,000.
The product's reception comes at a time when competition in Tanzania's beverage market continues to expand, with manufacturers increasingly introducing products targeting consumers seeking different tastes and formats.
While the first week has generated considerable conversation around ORIJIN, sustained consumer interest will ultimately depend on how the product performs beyond its launch period and whether the initial curiosity translates into continued demand.
For now, the beverage has secured a place in public conversations, with consumers continuing to debate what makes it different from products they already know.
